Finding Help

What kind of support?

The first step in getting the support you need at home is to understand what services would work best for you - or for the family member who may need support.

Our staff will work with you, and your family members where appropriate, to establish the kind of care and support that will make a real difference.

Eligibility for Funding

You may be eligible for subsidised or funded services. To get a referral to your local NASC agency you can either phone them direct or go through your GP. The local Needs Assessment Service Co-ordination (NASC) agency that operates within most District Health Board (DHB) regions offers a full assessment service, information and access to services. See the MOH website to find your local DHB.

If you are not eligible to receive funded care but still require support then services may be purchased privately. Sometimes a mix of both public and privately funded services is required in order to ensure you can continue to live as independently as possible.

Panacea Healthcare can put support in place immediately while you are being assessed, and the right mix of services is being planned. Contact us.

ACC Rehabilitation Care

If you are injured in an accident in New Zealand, you will generally be covered by ACC - although ACC will determine whether or not you are eligible for any payments or support.

Panacea is able to provide support as determined by ACC.

If you have any questions then you can call ACC on 0800 101 996, or visit their web site www.acc.co.nz.

Carer Support - Taking Care of the Carer -

If you are being cared for by a loved one at home, your caregiver may need some time out.

Carer Support is a subsidy funded through the Ministry of Health to assist unpaid, full time carers to take a break. Carer Support will contribute to the cost of using a support person to give your caregiver some time out.

Panacea can provide support workers on a short term basis to provide you with this kind of service. To find out whether you are eligible for this support you need to talk, in the first instance, to your GP who will help you to apply.

For more information on this go to www.moh.govt.nz/disability and click on Ministry Funded Support Services. See the fact sheets on NASC, Carer Support and Respite Care.
